A Sculpted Door is one of Wendell Castle’s earlier pieces. With an oeuvre that seeks to combine sculpture and furniture, Castle uses a particular wood technique called bent lamination, consisting of glueing multiple wooden planks before carving the shape. He focuses on keeping the form organic and the tone of the material natural; the decorative elements of the door’s structure are merged like branches of a tree.
