Gio Ponti (1891-1979) was a prolific Italian architect and artist who spent his whole life formulating a unique concept of ‘Italian-ness,’ realised through his creations. This desk shows the versatility and experimentation that Ponti was unafraid to pursue in defining modernist Italian design. Built for the Vetrocoke Offices in Milan in 1939, the desk combines woodwork with Vitrex glass panes, prioritising the function of the piece while playing with a perception of weightlessness.
