The Campana Brothers experimented with leather fragments in the studio to understand the material’s possibilities and limitations. Once those characteristics were understood, they eventually transformed the fragments into something concrete by applying them to the desired structure with their own hands. “You can bend it easily, pile it up, or create a rigid structure out of it.” Humberto Campana The results were seemingly random ensembles created out of the scraps of leather. The chairs were loosely clad in an irregularly overlapping patchwork of bits of leather in multiple colors and patterns. The clever method of accumulation that worked so well in the brothers’ earlier body of work went one step further to shock and amuse—the peeling upholstery. Location: France
